Beau's Fairy Wrasse - Cirrhilabrus beauperryi
Beau’s Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus beauperryi)
The Beau’s Fairy Wrasse is a striking small fairy wrasse from Melanesia, admired for its vivid red-purple upper body, bright blue lower body and elegant finnage. Like many fairy wrasses, males are more colourful than females and may intensify in colour when displaying. In the wild, this species is found on reef-associated habitat in the Western Pacific, especially around Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, where it occurs from roughly 5–32 metres depth. In the aquarium, it is best suited to a peaceful, mature marine system with rockwork, open swimming space and a secure lid.
Common Name:
Beau’s Fairy Wrasse. It is also commonly referred to as Beau’s Wrasse.
Scientific Name (Latin):
Cirrhilabrus beauperryi
Maximum Size:
Up to 8.5 cm in length.
Water Type:
Marine.
Origin / Natural Habitat:
Western Pacific, including Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. It is a reef-associated species found at around 5–32 metres depth.
Water Parameters:
Temperature: 22–26°C
pH Range: 8.1–8.4
Salinity: 1.020–1.025 SG
These are standard stable reef conditions used for aquarium care of this species.
Temperament:
Generally peaceful, making it best suited to other calm marine fish rather than boisterous or aggressive tankmates.
Diet:
Carnivorous. Offer a varied diet of small meaty marine foods such as mysis, finely chopped seafood and quality prepared foods for marine carnivores.
Minimum Tank Size:
250 litres minimum is a sensible long-term recommendation. Some care references suggest slightly smaller systems, but a larger mature aquarium is the safer choice for stability and swimming space.
Behaviour & Activity:
An active fairy wrasse that spends much of the day swimming in the water column and around rockwork. Males may display more intensely in the presence of females, and the species benefits from plenty of crevices and caves for shelter and resting.
Reef Safe:
Reef Safe
This species is generally regarded as reef safe, but caution is sensible around very small crustaceans. Monitor carefully if keeping it with tiny ornamental shrimps or similarly small mobile invertebrates.
Special Requirements or Care Notes:
Best kept in a well-established marine aquarium with ample rockwork, hiding places and a tight-fitting lid, as fairy wrasses are known jumpers. It does best in a peaceful environment and may be kept singly or in a carefully planned harem arrangement if introduced correctly.
Suitable for:
Intermediate fishkeepers. This fits the species’ generally peaceful nature and moderate care guidance, while still allowing for the need for a mature tank and secure cover.
Availability:
Occasional in trade. This is an inference based on specialist listings and wholesale availability rather than it appearing as a routine, everyday stock fish.
All images are a visual representation of the fish you will receive, made to be as accurate as possible. Please note that Mother Nature is a wonderful thing, and variation in patterns and colours will occur — that is part of the unique beauty of these animals.
