The Velvet Coral Croucher is a tiny, highly cryptic coral-dwelling fish with a rounded body, velvety papillae and a uniform orange-brown to brownish-grey colouration. It spends its life tucked deep within branching corals, where it forages between the branches and rarely ventures into open water. Because of its secretive nature, specialist habitat needs and shy feeding behaviour, it is best suited to a calm, mature reef aquarium run by an experienced keeper.

75 litres is a sensible minimum for a single specimen in a peaceful, established reef aquarium, although some aquarium references quote smaller volumes. Stability, coral structure and low competition matter more than volume alone.
