CW102 Cory - Hoplisoma sp.
CW102 Cory (Hoplisoma sp.)
The CW102 Cory is a small, peaceful cory-type catfish from Brazil, appreciated for its neat patterning, gentle nature and suitability for a calm freshwater community aquarium. It remains an undescribed species, so it is still traded under its hobby code rather than a full formal species name. Like other short-snouted corys, it is a sociable bottom-dweller that does best in groups, where it will spend much of the day foraging across the substrate and resting together in shaded areas.
Common Name:
CW102 Cory. It is also commonly sold as the Gold Bow Cory.
Scientific Name (Latin):
Hoplisoma sp. CW102
Maximum Size:
Males reach around 3.5 cm, while females grow to around 4 cm.
Water Type:
Freshwater
Origin / Natural Habitat:
Native to Brazil, from the Rio Tapajós drainage in South America.
Water Parameters:
Temperature: 22–26°C
pH Range: 6.0–7.2
Temperament:
Generally peaceful and very well suited to a calm community aquarium. It is a social species and should not be kept on its own long term.
Diet:
Omnivorous bottom-feeder. Offer a varied diet of quality sinking foods such as tablets, granules and larger flakes, alongside frozen or live foods such as bloodworm, white worm, grindal worm, daphnia and tubifex.
Minimum Tank Size:
A practical long-term recommendation is at least 60 litres for a small group, with a larger footprint always preferred over a tall, narrow aquarium.
Behaviour & Activity:
This is an active bottom-dweller that spends much of the day searching through the substrate for food. It is far more confident and natural in behaviour when kept in a proper group, and shaded areas will help it settle quickly.
Aquarium Category:
Community Fish
Best kept in a group of at least 6 with other peaceful, small to medium community fish. Good companions include tetras, rasboras, danios and other gentle bottom-dwellers. Watch out for aggressive cichlids, large predatory fish and rough boisterous tankmates, as this species is gentle and relies on group security rather than aggression.
Special Requirements or Care Notes:
A fine sand substrate is strongly recommended, although smooth rounded gravel can also work if kept very clean. Avoid sharp gravel, as it can damage the barbels while the fish searches for food. Add driftwood, plants and shaded cover around the edges, but leave open patches of substrate for natural foraging.
Suitable for:
Beginner to Intermediate fishkeepers
Availability:
Occasional in trade
All images are a visual representation of the fish you will receive, made to be as accurate as possible. Please note that Mother Nature is a wonderful thing, and variation in patterns and colours will occur — that is part of the unique beauty of these animals.
